ABBY MESSICK NAMED DIRECTOR OF GOLF AT HYATT REGENCY CHESAPEAKE BAY; ONE OF ONLY 200 LPGA TEACHING & CLUB PROFESSIONALS TO HOLD PRESTIGIOUS POST

CAMBRIDGE, MD (March 26, 2018) – Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina (HRCB) is proud to announce Abby Messick has been named Director of Golf at River Marsh Golf Club. An LPGA Teaching & Club Pro Division Class A Member since 2008, Messick is one of only 200 members who have earned this title.

In her new role, Messick will oversee all daily operations of the club and course including membership, lessons and clinics, marketing and sales for both daily fee and group outings, and promoting River Marsh through fundraising tournaments.

“Hyatt has consistently been ranked a top workplace for women throughout the country, motivating and empowering women to take on leadership roles,” said Joel Bunde, General Manager.  “Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay is a testament to that fact; the golf industry is traditionally a male-dominated field, which makes us even prouder to have Abby on our team – an incredible talent who is inspiring the next generation of female golfers on the Eastern Shore.”

Messick joined HRCB when the property opened in August of 2002.  Throughout her tenure at River Marsh Golf Club, she has held positions with increasing levels of responsibility including Pro Shop Supervisor, Assistant Pro, Head Professional, Golf Business Development/Sales and now Director of Golf.

“As an Eastern Shore native, it has always been a personal goal to grow the game of golf in our area and we have a tremendous asset in the River Marsh Golf Club,” Messick said.  “We are seeing an influx of young ladies joining our summer golf camps, so the interest and excitement is there. I love that I have the opportunity to expand the athletic mindset of young women on the Shore and let them know that this isn’t just a ‘man’s game;’ it’s to their benefit to learn and they can continuing growing into this lifetime sport. The options are endless for a young woman who plays golf and may be looking ahead to college and beyond. It’s a true asset,” she concluded.

A Cambridge, MD native, Messick learned the game at a young age, playing her first hole of golf at Green Hill Country Club in Salisbury, MD.  Today, she volunteers locally with high school golf programs and is a Choptank Heritage Trail board member.  Previously, she served on the Cambridge Main Street Board and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity Choptank.
