HORSESHOE BAY RESORT ADDS JACK NICKLAUS SIGNATURE GOLF COURSE TO ITS PORTFOLIO OF CHAMPIONSHIP COURSES

HORSESHOE BAY, TX (June 22, 2011) – Horseshoe Bay Resort announced today that Summit Rock, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, has been added to the company’s portfolio of championship golf courses.  This brings the resort’s golf offerings to four professionally designed panoramic 18-hole courses, each of which incorporates the unique, natural terrain of the beautiful Texas Hill Country while providing holes playable for a variety of skill levels.

Horseshoe Bay Resort, named one of America’s Best Golf Resorts by Golf Magazine, is already home to three championship Robert Trent Jones Sr. golf courses: Slick Rock, Ram Rock and Apple Rock. The late Jones Sr. designed an estimated 500 prestigious courses during his lifetime. His three creations for Horseshoe Bay Resort are among his finest works of art. The courses have all been featured in the “50 Best Courses in Texas” list in The Dallas Morning News every year since the origin of the annual ranking in 1989.

Jack Nicklaus, whose Nicklaus Design firm has already established a rich tradition of golf in Texas with close to a dozen courses opened over the last 25 years, including three of the top six in the state rankings, is certain to add to Horseshoe Bays Resort’s golf legacy with his highly anticipated design of Summit Rock. The layout will be the only Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course to open in the U.S. this year.

“Summit Rock will be the newest jewel in the crown of our golf courses at Horseshoe Bay Resort,” said Douglas Jaffe III, chief executive officer, Horseshoe Bay Resort & Horseshoe Bay Resort Realty. “There is no other place in the Hill Country and few places in Texas which can match this collection of four outstanding golf courses designed by legends of the game.”

Summit Rock will be available solely to Summit Rock Golf Club Members.

Horseshoe Bay Resort Club Membership offers unlimited access to the three existing Robert Trent Jones Sr. golf courses along with other amenities; Members will be offered the opportunity to become Summit Rock Golf Club Members creating an elite club environment. An announcement regarding the opening date for Summit Rock will be made once Horseshoe Bay Resort owners and management finalize the timeline to complete the high-quality amenities which the Horseshoe Bay Resort Club Members expect.

Jack Nicklaus has made numerous site visits to Summit Rock, which offers many unique features the Golden Bear himself envisioned and directed. “I think Summit Rock has the potential to be very special and I can say that I have thoroughly enjoyed designing it,” Jack Nicklaus said. “During the design of Summit Rock, my team and I were challenged to think creatively about how to incorporate the natural terrain, add plenty of spice to the course, while still making the holes playable for a variety of skill levels. The end result is a distinctive course that gives the player more options than most.”

Due to the expert design and natural landscape of Summit Rock, it will be a one-of-a-kind experience for even the most traveled and seasoned player. Unlike many courses constructed in the past few decades with a highly manicured look, Summit Rock was designed to have a more natural, rugged look to blend in seamlessly with the surrounding terrain that became the layout’s canvas.

The three current golf courses at Horseshoe Bay Resort are more than just an opportunity to play a couple of rounds of golf during a vacation or conference. Players experience the finest collection of golf courses in the country.

Members of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, the National Golf Foundation and the Golf Course Superintendents of America selected the entire Horseshoe Bay Resort golf complex as one of the “Best Built in the U.S. since 1962,” placing the three Robert Trent Jones, Sr. courses “among the top one percent of golf courses in America.”

Horseshoe Bay Resort Director of Golf, Glenn Lee, will oversee Summit Rock and will continue to oversee Apple Rock, Ram Rock and Slick Rock. A member of the PGA of America since 1991, Lee has supervised two Nicklaus-design courses before coming to Horseshoe Bay Resort.  He was elected to the office of president of the Southern Texas Professional Golf Association (STPGA) at the organization’s 43rd annual meeting in April 2011.
