SCHWAB BRINGS BACK A ONE-OF-A-KIND CHAMPION’S PRIZE

SCHWAB BRINGS BACK A ONE-OF-A-KIND CHAMPION’S PRIZE AND NEW, ORIGINAL COUNTRY SONG TO THE 2021 CHARLES SCHWAB CHALLENGE

Country music personality Bobby Bones and rising star Travis Denning team up with Schwab to help celebrate 75 years at Colonial – and reveal a prized new ride for this year’s champion

FORT WORTH, Texas – May 11, 2021 — Schwab today revealed new details of this year’s Champion’s Prize for the Charles Schwab Challenge golf tournament in Fort Worth, May 27-30. This year the prize will come with a new look, a new tune, and support from TV personality and nationally syndicated iHeartRadio host, Bobby Bones, and country music singer/songwriter Travis Denning.

A Prized New Ride with its Own Song
The winner of the Charles Schwab Challenge will drive off with a new Champion’s Prize to complement the Colonial’s iconic Leonard Trophy and Scottish royal tartan plaid jacket. Not only will it be Texas-sized, but it was also the inspiration for an original song. In another first for the tournament, Schwab has partnered with country music singer/songwriter Travis Denning to write and perform a new, original song inspired by this year’s Champion’s Prize, and all things Texas. The Mercury Nashville recording artist began writing the song earlier this year and the lyrics will draw upon Denning’s upbringing while also calling out elements of the Champion’s Prize.

“As a songwriter, I find inspiration in so many different places – and it was a lot of fun to create a song that is inspired by the one-of-a-kind Champion’s Prize that will be awarded at this year’s Charles Schwab Challenge,” said Denning. “I can’t wait for people to hear the new song and see the new prize and, once they do, they’ll know why I jumped at the chance to be a part of this fantastic program.”

Schwab has also joined forces with TV personality, Bobby Bones, the nationally syndicated iHeartRadio host, best-selling author, comedian, and avid golf fan, who will officially premiere the song on his popular “Bobbycast” podcast on May 21. Additional content will be shared with Bones’ loyal listeners in the lead-up to the tournament.

Bobby Bones will be onsite at Colonial to reveal the Champion’s Prize on May 25, when the model and design of the 2021 prize will be unveiled. The debut of an exclusive video of a special, acoustic performance of Denning’s song will also be played for the first time.

“As a huge fan of both golf and country music, this feels like the perfect opportunity to help bring these two worlds together in a fun new way,” Bones said. “I’m really excited to help celebrate this iconic tournament – and its milestone 75th anniversary – alongside Travis and Schwab.”

Putting Schwab’s Mark on a Storied Tournament
In the firm’s first year as title sponsor, a fully renovated and customized 1973 Dodge® Challenger – that paid homage to the year Schwab was founded – was presented to then champion Kevin Na who, in turn, gifted it to his caddie Kenny Harms.

“For the tournament’s 75th anniversary, we wanted to celebrate Colonial and surprise the golf world and all its fans with something really special,” said Mason Reed, Schwab’s senior vice president of Retail Acquisition and Corporate Marketing. “While we are going to keep the details of this year’s prize and the new song a secret for a little longer, what I can say is that working with Travis and Bobby – and the opportunity to pay homage to this great tournament and the great state of Texas through this fun new partnership – is incredibly exciting,” added Reed. “We can’t wait for fans to hear, and see, what we have in store for them.”

The Charles Schwab Challenge, the longest running professional golf tournament on the PGA TOUR at the same venue, has been a mainstay in the North Texas community since 1946. Over the decades, the tournament has seen champions representing the biggest names in golf, including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Tom Watson, and of course, Ben Hogan.

Charles Schwab & Co. signed on as title sponsor of the PGA TOUR’s Fort Worth Invitational at Colonial Country Club in 2018. Already a major sponsor of the PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions, the firm’s four-year agreement marked its first-ever title sponsorship of a PGA TOUR event. Schwab continues to grow rapidly in the Metroplex where its new 70-acre, LEED-certified campus in Westlake was recently designated as home to the firm’s corporate headquarters.

It will be held May 27-30 at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, and will be broadcast nationally to a televised audience on the Golf Channel and on CBS Sports.

About the Charles Schwab Challenge
As the Official Investment Firm of the PGA TOUR® and PGA TOUR Champions since 1997, Charles Schwab expanded its golf presence by assuming title sponsorship of the PGA TOUR’s annual tournament at Colonial Country Club beginning in 2019. The four-year agreement will run through 2022. The Charles Schwab Challenge is one of the country’s premier and longest-running PGA TOUR events, serving as a showcase for the game’s best players. The Wall of Champions at Colonial Country Club is populated by many of the game’s greatest names, with Fort Worth native and Colonial member Ben Hogan chief among them as the tournament’s only five-time champion, starting with the first two editions of the tournament in 1946-47.
