Leading Voice for Wounded Veterans Across America to Play in World’s Largest Golf Outing

World's Largest Golf Outing(RESTON, VA) – Dan Nevins, Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Alumnus and leading voice for thousands of injured veterans across America, has committed to play in the fifth annual World’s Largest Golf Outing (WLGO) on Monday, August 3.

Nevins, who will tee up at St. John’s Golf & Country Club in St. Augustine, FL, is an inspiration to fellow wounded servicemen and women. His passion for golf and helping others led him to become an ardent supporter of WLGO and its efforts to further the WWP mission of honoring and empowering Wounded Warriors.

An Iraq War veteran, Nevins suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and lost both legs after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated under his vehicle in 2004. Following an 18-month recovery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, he turned to golf for rehabilitation and to regain confidence, balance and stability.

Nevins was appointed Community Outreach Manager for the PGA TOUR in 2007, won the 2008 WWP George C. Lang Award for Courage and even climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 2011.

“The World’s Largest Golf Outing is a blessing,” said Nevins. “This amazing and fun grassroots event has grown into a force in aiding injured service men and women, their families and caregivers.”

Spots in the WLGO, hosted at more than 140 courses from Hawaii to New England, are filling quickly as golfers are eagerly signing up to play alongside wounded veterans.

“Stories like Dan’s remind us that a soldier’s battle isn’t over when he or she returns home,” says Peter Hill, Chairman and CEO of Billy Casper Golf (BCG), which founded the WLGO in 2011. “Sharing the same fairway with the brave men and women who’ve sacrificed so much for our freedoms is special and highly emotional.”

This year, Troon, ClubCorp and Toll Golf have joined forces with BCG to make World’s Largest Golf Outing the biggest one-day celebration of golf and charity. The event’s goal is to eclipse the $887,000 donated to WWP in 2014, the largest single-day golf fundraiser ever.

Part proceeds and 100% of donations from players and non-players benefit WWP. Teams are encouraged to raise additional funds; donations unrelated to playing golf can be made at www.worldslargestgolfouting.com/donate.
