GOLF Magazine Recognizes Two Treetops Courses Among the Best In Michigan

Treetops ResortGaylord, MI – Treetops Resort, the nationally acclaimed golf resort destination in northern Michigan, has had two of its golf courses recognized by GOLF Magazine in its listing of “The Best Courses Near You.”

The Smith Signature, designed by leading swing guru and course architect Rick Smith, was ranked No. 8 on the state list, while the Fazio Premier, the only Tom Fazio design in the state of Michigan, was listed at No. 18.

The publication’s biennial review of the top public courses is featured in the September 2014 issue. The “Best in State” was determined through a unique rating system utilizing top golf writers, industry insiders and golf course raters.

The Smith Signature, which opened in 1993, is one of the most unique and beautiful golf courses in the country. Smith’s design incorporates the look and feel of an overseas Irish course with the rugged hardwoods and views of northern Michigan. The course, which is routed in and around a large ridge providing views for up to 40-miles, plays firm and fast with challenging green complexes and fescue lined bunkers that look like they belong more in Ireland than northern Michigan.

Following the opening of the Jones Masterpiece in 1987, Treetops brought in legendary course designer Tom Fazio in 1992 to create a more player friendly design that resort guests could enjoy. The result was a fun and playable course with friendly fairways and large undulating green complexes.
