Sports Turf Managers Association Extends Partnership with Green Sports Alliance

Fourth Annual Summit Set for Late July in Santa Clara, Calif.

(LAWRENCE, Kan.) – Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) – the professional organization for 2,600 men and women who manage sports fields worldwide – extends its partnership with the 2014 Green Sports Alliance Summit.

Founded in February 2010, the Green Sports Alliance is a non-profit organization designed to help the sports industry enhance environmental performance. Members represent over 230 professional and collegiate sports teams and venues from 20 different leagues.

“We are excited to enter our third year of support for the Green Sports Alliance Summit and we are very impressed with how well the Alliance is raising awareness about environmental sustainability,” says Kim Heck, CEO of STMA. “The networking opportunities and information shared between our combined networks enhances the safety and playability of sports fields, while also supporting athletes to perform at the highest level.”

More than 600 industry stakeholders, including several STMA members, will participate in the fourth annual Green Sports Alliance Summit in Santa Clara, Calif. July 21-23, 2014. Over 80 sports and environmental leaders will engage peers about better environmental practices and proven solutions to advance the green sports movement.

STMA and the Alliance are committed to improving and protecting the environment by reducing waste, conserving energy and water and eliminating toxic chemicals. The goal is to integrate sustainability into core sports operations, engage fans and save maintenance costs in the process.

Founding partners for the Green Sports Alliance include the National Resources Defense Council and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Alliance members include Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, National Basketball Association, National Hockey League and the United States Tennis Association.
