Nike Athlete Tiger Woods dominates the field to capture his 79th PGA Tour victory

Nike Golf-The top-ranked player in the world claims his eighth WGC Bridgestone Invitational win with the VR_S Covert Driver-

BEAVERTON, Ore. (August 5, 2013) – Nike Athlete Tiger Woods posted a career-tying best score of 61 in the second round of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational to build up a 7-stroke lead heading into the weekend — and he never looked back. Woods maintained his impressive lead at Firestone Country Club to clinch his 18th World Golf Championship title and his first win with the VR_S Covert Tour driver since putting it into play at The Open Championship just two weeks ago.

The victory is Woods’ eighth at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational, matching the PGA Tour-record he also holds at Bay Hill for most wins in the same tournament.

Woods took full advantage of his 14-club Nike arsenal en route to the 79th PGA Tour win of his career and fifth of the season. He averaged more than 315 yards off the tee with his VR_S Covert Tour driver and blasted a 379-yard drive on the par-5 16th hole in the second round, the second-longest drive of the tournament.

Woods’ VR_S Covert Tour prototype driver features innovative cavity back technology that delivers the stability the top-ranked player in the world wants while moving weight to the perimeter to increase forgiveness and add even more distance to off-center shots.

“Something I’m very proud of is how many tournaments I’ve been able to win consistently, year in and year out, and how many World Golf Championships I’ve been able to win,” Woods said. “I played well today and played conservatively but also played very aggressive to my spots. I feel like my game is pretty consistent, and the weeks I’ve putted well I’ve been able to win,” Woods said.

Woods led the field with 19 birdies and was fifth in putts per greens in regulation with his Nike Method 001 putter.

Woods also wore apparel from the Nike TW Collection as well as the iconic Nike TW ’14 shoe, featuring Nike Free-Inspired technology.

Woods now turns his attention to the final major of the year, the PGA Championship, at Oak Hill, which begins this week in Rochester, NY.
