COUPLES RIDES B330 BACK INTO WINNER’S CIRCLE FOR FIRST CAREER SENIOR MAJOR TITLE

2011 President’s Cup Captain Makes Return From Extended Layoff a Memorable One

Covington, Ga. — In Harrison, NY, this weekend, Fred Couples made his long awaited return to competition in grand fashion, recording his first career Champions Tour major victory at the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship.  Couples outlasted the wind and rain of the final round at historic Westchester Country Club to card an even par 71 on Sunday, putting him into a sudden death playoff.  On the third playoff hole, Couples displayed the precision shot-making that made him the leader in Greens in Regulation for the week, stiffing a wedge to three feet to make birdie.

Playing just his fifth event on the Champions Tour this year, Couples relied on the incredible distance and accuracy of the Bridgestone TOUR B330 golf ball and J38 Dual Pocket Cavity irons as he finished third in Driving Distance (with an average of 281 yards per drive) and T1 in Greens in Regulation (hitting an incredible 84.7%), respectively. With the victory, Couples earned $405,000 and vaulted himself into the #11 position in the Charles Schwab Cup points standings.  With the victory, Couples also earned an invite to the 2012 PLAYERS Championship.

“Fred never ceases to amaze,” said Dan Murphy, Vice President of Marketing – Bridgestone Golf, Inc.  “He is one of the best iron players on any Tour and that talent for shot-making brings a ton of excitement to the game.  If this is any indication of what a healthy Fred Couples is capable of, both the Champions and PGA Tours will be in for a treat.”
